Arrun Saunders

Born in Basingstoke 2nd April 1984. Lived in Alton his entire life except for the first two years of his undergraduate degree course in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Southampton.

Arrun started to play the Bass age 11, with his best mate from Eggars senior school, playing Nirvana...mostly. Through senior school he played in the Big Band, Jazz Band, Modern Jazz Quintet and many other ensembles brought about the by the requirements of GCSE music.

After Eggars, Arrun went to Alton College where among others he studied A-Level Music with Martin Read. This was an amazing opportunity as he was able to be part of the prestigeous Alton College Jazz Band which made quite a name for itself. Alongside Alton College, Arrun joined HYJO (Hampshire Youth Jazz Orchestra) where he was able to perform in many of the local, and not so local jazz venues, including concert tours to Prague, Copenhagen and Malmo.

During his time in Southampton, Arrun played in numerous funk and soul bands, most notably the 7 piece 'Buster Groove' as well as the 3 piece 'Brown', lead by Hitch Thompson.

His main influences have been from the late Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny, James Brown, Herbie Hancock, Mark King and many many more.

Since the age of 16, Arrun has also taught the Bass guitar having over 50 students, teaching privately, in schools and also being asked back by Eggars and Alton College to hold the bass tutors chair.

Arrun is currently a postgraduate student studying for his PhD at the Universtiy of Southampton Astronautics department, teaching Bass and gigging as much as he possibly can.
