Phil Singleton

Philip Singleton trained as a classical trumpet player at the University of Surrey, with Alastair Mackie of the Philharmonia Orchestra.

He performs in a wide range of musical contexts and styles, and is equally at home as a concert soloist, as a recitalist, as guest principal trumpet in an orchestral trumpet section, playing lead trumpet in the orchestra pit of a theatre, fronting his own big band, or playing small group jazz with his quartet.

Alongside his trumpet-playing career, Philip is in increasing demand as a conductor, and has recently been appointed Artistic Director of The Lightbox Ensemble, the new professional orchestra based at the art gallery and museum of the same name in Woking, Surrey. Philip is also the Lightbox's Music Consultant, as well as directing "JAZZ @ The Lightbox", which is set to be an exciting new fixture on the UK musical scene. In the latter capacity Philip has performed alongside saxophone legend Peter King and trombonist Barnaby Dickinson, with many more top-flight players due to appear at future events.

Philip is also gaining recognition as a composer. His many works for large and small jazz ensembles are well received wherever they are performed, and he is currently working on a commission from the Lightbox Ensemble, which will be premiered during the 2007-2008 season.

In addition to his performing activities, Philip has a busy teaching schedule, and is a Tutor of Brass at several well-respected schools and colleges. For more information on Philip's musical activities please see www.philsingleton.co.uk
